Today’s LAST CALL Holiday Gift Guide is available to all readers thanks to the generous support of High Wire Distilling Company.
Charleston’s High Wire Distilling Company—founded by husband-and-wife team, Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall—helped pioneer small-batch, craft spirits in South Carolina, focusing on a simple approach of using the finest ingredients available and developing recipes using a creative, culinary approach.
They recently celebrated the milestone of their 10th anniversary with the release of their very first Single Farm Bottled In Bond Jimmy Red Bourbon Whiskey, which showcases Jimmy Red corn, an heirloom breed that at one time only had two known ears in existence. But now, their Jimmy Red Revival Project has inspired High Wire Distilling Company to work with local farmers to grow hundreds of acres of Jimmy Red each year, with each harvest inspiring a new spirit release.
Bottled at 100-proof, High Wire Distilling Company’s Single Farm Bottled In Bond Jimmy Red Bourbon Whiskey was distilled from a single harvest of Jimmy Red corn grown by Campbell Coxe at Plumfield Farm in Darlington, South Carolina, and comes packaged in a bespoke stoneware bottle. Jimmy Red Straight Bourbon Whiskey is also available in a Classic bottling
High Wire Distilling Company remains humbled and grateful to have the opportunity to carry on the legacy of this enduring legacy grain to produce a bourbon born from South Carolina.
Featured Cocktail: Manhattan
High Wire Distilling Company’s Jimmy Red Bourbon Whiskey is just perfect on its own, whether served neat or over a large ice cube, but it can take whiskey drinks like the Old-Fashioned, Boulevardier, or a Manhattan to a whole new level. The bourbon’s distinctive notes of graham, cinnamon, and maple are complemented by a rich Italian vermouth like Carpano Antica Formula or Punt e Mes.
Makes 1 Drink
2 ounces High Wire Distilling Co. Jimmy Red Bourbon
1 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Garnish: cocktail cherry
Add the bourbon, vermouth, and bitters to a mixing glass and fill with ice. Stir until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a cocktail cherry.
