I saw John Cooper Clarke at the Palladium in NYC, I think 1979. Opening act on a triple headlined by Rockpile. JCC steps on the stage carrying just a notebook. I had those early records and was excited to see him but most of the crowd was, shall we say unreceptive. He didn’t seem to care - did his 15 minutes and walked off. During Rockpile’s set Nick Lowe admonished the crowd for being so rude to their friend JCC, that he expected a little more openness from a New Yorkaudience, and for those who were interested they could check JCC out at the Mudd Club in a few days. I am pretty sure that is the only time in my concert going life that the headliner gave the crowd shit for being dicks to the opener. Sorry for the ramble but all the talk of the NYC of my youth got me a little nostalgic.
A great edition, DJ Mojo seems like a really great guy, loads of cool stories, great musical insight. I’ll bet you had a blast with him, thanks for sharing
I prolly was in the RH when you & DJ Mojo were both there last Saturday (23rd) around afternoon at San Pedro Inn? I was having a late lunch at red hook tavern.
