Eating

Turkey Club (S&P)

My dentist’s office (shout out to Dr. Avo Samuelian!) is in the Flatiron so after x-rays, a cleaning, and check-up I walked over to S&P for, I’m ashamed to say, the very first time. I used to order takeout from the original Eisenberg’s when I worked in publishing in Union Square but the place was always too crowded, narrow, and cramped for a husky fellow to post up at the counter. The new owners, Court Street Grocers’ Eric Finkelstein and Matt Ross, assured me I’d be comfortable there and they weren’t lying. I loved the classic Turkey Club. Lately when I get a Turkey Club there seems to be discrepancy in whether the bread is toasted or not (it should always be toasted, there should always be three slices of bread, and interior top and bottom slices should be slicked with a generous application of mayo) and the one at S&P is toasted, but on the lighter side which turned out to be a much better experience than a crumbly hard toast. And the fries are cottage fries which are always a nice surprise to encounter in the wild.
