Meet The Long Island Bar's New Seasonal Frozen Drink
A changing of the guard is taking place at The Long Island Bar tonight as, like a snowbird in winter, the bar’s beloved Frozen Piña Colada is flying south for more tropical climes until next spring, with a brand new offering stepping in to take its place: Frozen Spiced Pumpkin Nog!
Making its debut on the L.I.B. menu this evening, the Frozen Spiced Pumpkin Nog plays off Toby Cecchini‘s sweetened, egg- and dairy-based house Eggnog spec. It’s fortified with a blend of Worthy Park 109 Proof Jamaican Dark Rum, Old Forester Signature 100 Proof Bourbon, and Cognac VS Park Carte Blanche. Its signature seasonal pumpkin spice blend is composed of pumpkin, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, ginger, and vanilla. While not pictured, the finished drink will be served with a Brach’s Mellowcreme Pumpkin Candy as a garnish.
While leaning into the seasonal PSL pop-culture zeitgeist isn’t something you’d expect from Cecchini, he envisions the new drink as an autumnal bridge spanning Halloween through Thanksgiving, after which the Frozen Eggnog will return to reclaim its rightful spot on the menu through the holiday season.
I was at L.I.B. Sunday evening in The Lombardi Room in the back of the bar nursing a Kölsch while watching the Seahawks get their clocks cleaned by the Bills. Cecchini tied on an apron and excused himself to head down to the basement prep kitchen and later emerged by the end of the fourth quarter with a glass of Frozen Pumpkin Spice Nog to sample.
