Dive Bar Jukebox: Everlasting Summer with Georgia Fulton
"I feel it in the air. The summer's out of reach."
Please Note: Due to the Labor Day holiday, LAST CALL will return on Friday, September 8.
Welcome to Dive Bar Jukebox, where bartenders, writers, chefs, musicians, and a cast of cool characters answer the question: If we were hanging out together at a bar and I put ten credits on the jukebox, what songs would you punch in and why? The answers reveal thoughts on their favorite dive bars along with a hand-picked, annotated playlist for your weekend listening pleasure.
Please welcome back today’s special guest…
Georgia Fulton
LAST CALL readers will likely remember Georgia Fulton’s DBJ debut from last fall, and we’re thrilled to have her back in the mix to help say goodbye to summer, with all its sun, sand, built-in nostalgia, and melancholy moods.
Born in Sydney, Australia, Fulton spent her formative years in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales until she moved to Melbourne after high school. And, being Australian, she benefits from celebrating two summers, here in New York then back home during our wintertime.
She’s also one of the early team members of Brooklyn’s beloved The Long Island Bar, and one of my favorite people to run into and share a Kölsch or two after hours in the Lombardi Room. And if you dig the music you hear at the bar while enjoying your Boulevardier, she’s responsible for their terrific playlists.
Read on to listen to Fulton’s annotated Everlasting Summer playlist.
Everlasting Summer
I’m a through and through summer person. I love everything about it. Waking up and throwing on some knickers and a dress, the beach, fish and chips, fresh fruit, the tomatoes I’m growing upstate. I love the intensity of a heatwave and the way it reduces an entire city of sophisticated people to utter only one sentiment: It’s soooo hot.
I wear my tan as a badge of honor. It proclaims the lazy fun of the many beach days I’ve had. You can see it, and it's true—I’m good at all this summertime stuff.
